Welcome to the final 3 days of this series.
When I am looking at room redo, revamp, reveal, redesign or whatever the current label people use for them I want to see pictures. I do not like going to those posts and having to read a book. I go, I want to see the pics, I may read just a little and then I’m gone.
So, if you’re looking for long drawn out explanations of every detail, sorry. You will not find it here. If you have questions, leave a comment and I promise I will answer. I will quickly note store source and price but that’s about it. I will wait for the final pics to do that. Here is another layer to the room;
I am using the wicker trunk and some child sized chairs on either side for a nice spot to sit and read or maybe color. The chairs are very old but another treasure of ours. They came from a family church and were given to my husband by his Mother.
So, back to the begining…..it looked like this;
A little more furniture to add and pictures for the walls tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by!
This is Day 29 of my 31 Day Series.
You’re probably thinking, great another post on feelings! How does this relate to decorating? Well, it does indirectly. Stay with me here. You would think that a normal person would see the 31 Day Challenge of posting every day to the end and then recap but I am in the mood to do a little of that now and use my time at the end for lots of pictures. That and I am not ready for more pics yet because well…I am not ready.
If you have ever committed to doing anything for 31 days straight, you know why the Nester called it a challenge. Let’s face it, it is just that. But I have found out a couple of things about myself in the process.
First, it is true that you do have time for the things you really want to do, if you just make the time. “Discipline is making the choice between what you want now and what you want most.” ~Author Unknown
In other words, I really wanted to see this through and I will. But, I had to give up some things (discipline myself) to accomplish something I really wanted to accomplish. Seriously, I did! I stopped watching TV ….at night during the week. I work and just like a lot of bloggers I did my work on this at night. And you know what? I realized that I am actually a lot less stressed when the TV is off. I have always turned it on for background noise even if I’m not watching it and I am over that, no more. And, the TV is not going to be on as much as it used to be. I want to do other things with my time now.
Second, I found out that talking about one topic everyday is very hard. Even though there is really not much I enjoy more than decorating, it is still very difficult. That must be why even the Pioneer Woman has several different topics that she posts on every day. Now this was not a bad realization for me it’s just that I found myself really stretching some days if you know what I mean and if you’ve been following my series…you know what I mean! Thanks for staying with me.
I have also taken the opportunity to check out a few other blogs during this series, see my “Halfway” post and learned a few new things. I’ve learned some neat ways to wrap gifts, some much need writing skills (still working on those), some ways to use Photoshop (when I get Photoshop) and met a few new friends along the way.
Third and finally, (for now anyway)…after reflecting back I am asking myself what is holding me back from doing other things…everyday?
Like watching my carbs, working out, reading, writing just a little, more blogging, this list could go on couldn’t it? I have managed to do this challenge everyday. Let me state that again. I have written a post every day…. so far… for the entire month of October, so what is holding me back from accomplishing something else that I really want to do every day for the next month and the month after that? Just me.
What about you? Is there something you could commit to doing every day that you want to do? Maybe it’s something small. Maybe it’s something big. If I can do it…you can do it! I’d love to hear from you!
One of my favorite all time quotes; “You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” ~Eleanor Roosevelt
Thank for stopping by today!
This is Day 27 of my 31 Day Series. I am joining in with over 700 other bloggers in a challenge of writing a post everyday for the month of October on a topic of choice. My topic, 31 Days of Decorating with $31. I will be revealing a room I have talked about and decorated this month over the next 3 days, so stop back and take a peek.
I have been perusing through the house, looking for pieces to add to my guest room. I dug way deep in the back room, well it’s not really that bad… and I found this old treasure stacked on a shelf with a bunch of pictures that I have been moving from house to house. You know that box we all keep or I guess in this case those things you make, keep, hold on to for just the right opportunity to get rid or give back.
This one was near the bottom and I decided it would be fun to add this picture to the space. I made it for my son when he was 2 years old. So, it is 25 years old! I actually remember making it for him. At the time we didn’t have much money or much on the walls and I was very proud of it when it was done. I put it in a cheap frame at first and then later on had it custom framed and now I’m so glad I did.
My room is really turning into a space that I am decorating for the grandkids to want to use. My original plan was to make it more for adults and let them use it as their room to sleep in but it is turning out to be more of a room for them to like and adults can use it to sleep in!
So, I think this picture will be a fun addition and it has a purpose again!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
This is Day 27 of my 31 Day Series.
Ahhhh, the first layer. Traditionally it would start with paint of course, and there is not carpet so the next thing to put in place is the larger furniture pieces, i.e. bed and rug. In this case a single. I really wanted to purchase or have the “hubs” build a captains bed or daybed frame like the ones I see in Pottery Barn, but it just wasn’t in the cards this time due to time constraints for him and it really wouldn’t have fit in the budget anyway. Maybe in the future. We didn’t have time to add the rest of the furniture, so I guess you’ll see that another day.
I did get the wall treatment hung and although it looks a little funny now, I think it will really add to the texture of the room when everything is done . It’s not completely attached yet and it may get turned the other way. It will have some artwork hung directly on it and in the room itself you can’t see the wall behind it so much. I took this picture at 6:30AM so maybe it’s the lighting. (I hope). It was something I spent out of my budget.
This is Day 26 of my 31 Day Series, of Decorating with $31. I will finish this room at the end of this series. I am only spending $31, while using accessories and furnishings from the rest of my home. I will also be using a couple of gifts of money and a gift card on the room but that is money out of someone else’s pocket. Still a room done a very small budget!
Tomorrow, a hidden treasure that I get to finally make use of!
Luckily, I was able to take yesterday off to catch up from last week, prepare for this week and get my room prepped and ready to decorate and finish. Yeah! I got the floor mopped, blinds dusted, windows washed, closet doors re-hung and closet tidied up. Yes, that…… and laundry, paperwork and squeezed in a quick Room Redesign Consult (for a family member so I didn’t have to get all spiffed up.) All, while having the day off! Ha..ha…sound familiar?
Now off to the races! Up next, includes putting the bed place and getting the wall treatment up. Stay tuned…..
This is Day 25 of my 31 Day Series.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
I don’t feel like posting about decorating or my bedroom or really anything to do with my home at all today. So, breaking all the topic rules…what’s that saying? Rules were meant to be broken. Were they really? I’ll save that discussion for a different time, different day. I am going to write/share, but it is about our little Halloween Party that we attended last night.
In our 30 years together this was the first Halloween costume party we’ve ever been to… can you believe that? Sure we’ve done all the school related, kid related, church related kind of parties but have never gone to an adult costume party.
So, not much to say about this…..just sharing what happens when you invite adults to dress up in character. Do you suppose they put this much thought into their kids costumes? I can’t tell you who was actually in the pictures, I only knew 2 people there but maybe they wouldn’t want their names blasted across the blogosphere anyway and they obviously knew I was taking their pics. There were some really great costumes though.
Halloween is right around the corner. Have you been to costume party? Do you dress up on Halloween when you hand out candy? I’d love to hear about it.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
This is Day 23 of my 31 Day series.
One of the latest trends showing up in fashion and home decorating this fall is Menswear. I have been hearing about it and then I received my latest edition of Elle Decor magazine and there was an article dedicated to just that topic.
Hopefully, you’ve walked into your home and said “Ah…it’s good to be home.” It has taken me a little while to feel that way about this house but I am getting there. Actually, today after finishing up at work, that is exactly what I said. And it felt really good. That in turn got me thinking about what I really like about my home, how it is decorated, what I really use the most, how it makes me feel and how it makes others feel.
Don’t you just love peeking into other people’s homes…I don’t mean peeking exactly..but rather being invited to someone’s home so you can see how they live? Are you like me and whenever I find a blog and they have a “home tour” button I actually get excited! Seriously, I really do! You get a glimpse of what they really love about their homes. Usually, on a larger scale than what I’m sharing. These are daily use things that I love, not just “home tour” pics.
I’m sharing 5 of my favorite things about my home. Not all of these are decorating related, just some favorite things that I can’t live without. Ok…I could but it would be really hard now that I’ve gotten used to having them.
#1– My morning coffee maker and my newer love the Keurig. I get asked all the time why I have two coffee makers out on my kitchen counter. It is because the big one is for the early morning cups for both of us and the Keurig is for the afternoon cup, when it’s just me at home. One cup in 30 seconds, I don’t waste a whole pot, which I used to do and still do once in a while. My hubby originally bought it for me a couple of years ago for my job at the time. There was not a coffee maker available and it worked out perfect. So, now it sits on my counter and I use it when I just need one cup.
#2–The leather loveseat. We have had this loveseat about 8 years. It was a good quality one, and that’s a good thing. It is in our little office but it probably gets used more than our kitchen table. In fact, I’m sure it does. It’s not so pretty anymore, lot’s of dog scratches and it is getting worn patches but it is a great place for us to sit and talk about the day, usually while the other person is on the computer. It’s a great place to catch a quick nap for us or the furry ones. The walls in the office are not as blue as the picture makes them look but now I am re-thinking THAT wall color!
#3–My lighted, magnifying wall mounted make up mirror. My husband said you’re taking a picture of that?! Yes, I did! I first used one of these on our 25th Anniversary trip to Napa Valley. One of these mirrors was mounted in the bathroom and after the first use, I was in love. I use it everyday….
#4–My Pottery Barn- Metal Wall Accent Scroll. I love. love. love it. It was purchased originally as a piece for the wall above my mantel. No mantel here but our kitchen does have a vaulted ceiling with a large space and it fits perfectly. The beautiful thing about this piece is that you can turn it just about any way you want to display it. I also think it would be great in a living room, dining room, really almost anywhere. Hence, the reason I splurged on it.
#5–The Target Ottoman Cubes. These used to be in my basement flanking a decorator table. Looked good, really weren’t useful. Then one day I decided to try them in my living room to use as foot rests/coffee table. I actually really like using them in that way. Cheap, versatile, black, easy to move, what more could you want?
~Work update…the first 31 Christmas trees are fluffed…off to another town to fluff 18 (or so they say anyway) more. Then finally, some serious work on the guest room. I promise, next week you will see progress updates.
