This time of the year we want our homes to feel bright and sunny not dark and dingy. Removing some of the clutter and organizing your home is a great way to do that. Clutter makes your space seem smaller and diminishes the light. Here are a few quick tips to help you clear out that clutter and organize your home:

~Begin with what bothers you the most and what you see everyday. If you start with your kitchen it will be easier to tackle the basement because you’ll see the benefits right away.

~Observe where things are piling up and find a solution to the stack by using baskets, trays and other decorative objects. Preferably ones you already have so you’re not adding to your problem. Don’t throw non related items in this basket…only like items. For example, keys or mail.

~Get rid of junk drawers! Or at least commit to one only! If you must have a junk drawer use organizers in your drawer so you can clearly see what you have when you need it. And it’s a good idea to clean it out once a month.

~ Get rid of things, lots of things. Who made the rule that when you purchase something you have to hold on to it forever? If you haven’t used it or worn it in the last couple of years, when will you?

~Envision your home as a prospective buyer would. Only put out what you really love what really works for your space.

~One of my favorite rules: every time you purchase something, throw, donate or give one thing away.  This works especially well on clothing and shoes. I really do try to do this!
